Job Description: Senior Medical Officer – Obstetrics and Gynaecology

TitleResponsibilities
Senior Medical Officer – Obs & GynaeManage inpatient and outpatient gynecological and obstetrical care, assist in surgeries and deliveries, counsel patients, train junior staff, and ensure adherence to AKU standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • MBBS from a PMC-recognized medical college
  • Completion of postgraduate residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (e.g., FCPS Part II training, MCPS, or equivalent)
  • Valid PMDC/PMC registration

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care to antenatal, postnatal, and general gynae patients
  • Conduct and assist in normal deliveries, C-sections, and OB/GYN surgeries
  • Support in managing emergency cases such as eclampsia, ruptured uterus, etc.
  • Participate in morning rounds, academic meetings, and case discussions
  • Train medical officers, house officers, and nursing teams
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including paediatrics and anesthesiology
  • Stay updated on WHO and institutional guidelines on women’s health

Eligibility Criteria

  • Valid MBBS degree and PMDC registration
  • Strong background in hospital-based obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts including night duties
  • Strong communication and clinical judgment skills
  • Demonstrated experience in high-volume tertiary care settings preferred

Experience Requirements

  • At least 3 years of post-house job clinical experience in OB/GYN
  • Experience in academic hospitals or teaching setups is a plus
  • Familiarity with use of EMR systems will be considered an advantage
